Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been handed a four-match ban following his red card against Stoke on Wednesday.

The Togo international was sent off late on in City's FA Cup fifth-round replay defeat after catching home defender Ryan Shawcross with a flailing arm.

Adebayor has chosen not to appeal against the decision and potentially see the ban extended.

However, an extra game was added to the usual three-match suspension for a red card as it is the second time Adebayor has been found guilty of violent conduct this season.

Second incident

The 25-year-old was given a three-game ban in September for a challenge on former Arsenal team-mate Robin van Persie, which went unseen by the referee but was picked up by television cameras.

City are also without midfielder Patrick Vieira, who has one game remaining on his own three-match ban for violent conduct after kicking out at Stoke's Glenn Whelan in last week's league meeting at the Britannia Stadium.
