Roberto Mancini feels Manchester City need to win seven of their remaining games to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and is not ruling Liverpool out of the race for fourth place.

City are locked in a four-way fight for the final Champions League spot and currently sit fifth in the table, two points behind Tottenham but with a game in hand.

Victory at home to Everton on Wednesday night would strengthen City's claims to play in European football's elite club competition next season and Mancini has outlined what he thinks is required to fulfil that ambition.

"If we win seven games I think we go, but I think it will be difficult," said the City boss.

"If we want to get fourth spot we must win always. It will be important that we win at home and away.

"In the last three games we have won in London twice, against Chelsea and Fulham, and drawn at Sunderland.

"It is important we have the same spirit away as we do at home."

Crucial game

If City beat Everton it will open up a five-point gap on Liverpool and still leave Mancini's men with a game in hand on Rafa Benitez's side.

However, despite Liverpool's stuttering season, Mancini believes the Champions League regulars remain in contention for fourth place.

He added: "I think Liverpool are a strong team with a good manager and I think we must fight with them, Aston Villa and Tottenham. I don't think Liverpool are out.

"We always hope the other teams lose, but it is important we do our job very well like at Fulham.

"Everton are in good form and they work very well on the pitch and it is a crucial game for us. If we win tomorrow we will have more chance [of finishing fourth]."
