Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has played down manager Roberto Mancini's touchline spat with Everton counterpart David Moyes.

Both managers were sent to the stands late on in the game, which ended 2-0 to Everton, after clashing on the sidelines.

The pair played down the confrontation and Kompany insists it was merely a case of passions running high.

"We know he (Mancini) is passionate and he is cool most of the time," Kompany told Sky Sports News.

"But in training we know he is passionate. It is a game of emotions and it was a case of us coming back and trying and trying.

"It was frustrating for everyone, he is passionate."

Meanwhile, City are awaiting on news of a possible injury to Stephen Ireland, suffered in the clash with Everton.

He was forced off at half-time, but Mancini is hopeful he will be fine.

"I don't know if it is a big injury, I am hoping it is just a little injury," he said.
