Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given is confident he will be fit for the start of the new season.

Joe Hart, who has returned to City after a successful season on loan at Birmingham last term, has been tipped to start the season at first-choice as Given recovers from injury.

Given missed the end of last season after dislocating his shoulder against Arsenal and he is battling to be fit for the start of the new campaign.

The Republic of Ireland is happy with his recovery and is confident of being available for the big kick-off against Tottenham on 14th August.

"The rehab work is going really well," Given told the Daily Mirror.

"I'm really confident I'll be fit for the Premier League opener at Spurs on August 14."
