Shaun Wright-Phillips is ready to fight for his Manchester City place after a disappointing World Cup with England.

The winger has cut short his summer holidays in order to link up with City on their North American tour and is eager to get back into action.

Wright-Phillips struggled to command a regular spot in Roberto Mancini's starting line-up last season and has increased competition for a place after the signing of David Silva.

However, after featuring in England's dismal World Cup showing, Wright-Phillips is looking forward to challenging for a role in City's chosen XI.

"It was disappointing with what happened in the summer at the World Cup," said Wright-Phillips.

"But now it's time to get the head down, pull on the boots and get on with it again.

"My only focus is to get on the pitch and do my thing. I am delighted to be back with the lads and straight into the banter.

"I was in LA for a while being well looked after and now I am ready to go."
