Heerenveen coach Gertjan Verbeek insists reported Middlesbrough target Afonso Alves has played his last game for the club.

Alves has been vying for a transfer for the past few weeks and a number of clubs including Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Fenerbahce have been linked with the prolific forward.

Verbeek is fed up with the speculation and feels the whole situation has disrupted his team.

Book is closed

"The book is closed. From the moment that he said that he wanted to leave Heerenveen, the story is over," Verbeek told AD Sportwereld.

"That he hasn't signed a contract yet at AZ or another club? That doesn't interest me. I only work with guys who have their heart and soul at Heerenveen and that is not the fact with Alves.

"He is not ready for it either, physically and mentally.

"Maybe I can put him in the line-up for four games, but I don't even dream of doing that. I don't want to be the victim of his unpredictable behaviour.

"That only leads the club into confusion."
