Skysports.com understands that Celtic have won the race to sign Middlesbrough starlet Ben Hutchinson.

The 20-year-old striker has penned a pre-contract with the Scottish champions, in a deal which will shock and disappoint Boro.

Hutchinson made the breakthrough into Boro's first team this season and scored on his Premier League debut at Manchester City.

He has since made a further seven substitute appearances in the league and started in the FA Cup third round victory at Bristol City.

Hutchinson joined Boro's highly acclaimed youth academy in 2006 when he was signed from Arnold Town and he has been tipped to make a big impact at The Riverside.

Compensation

However, Boro have failed to agree fresh terms with Hutchinson and Celtic have pulled of a major coup in landing his signature.

A host of Premier League sides had also shown an interest, but Boro were confident of keeping the player - but now Celtic have swooped.

Boro will be due compensation for Hutchinson, but it is only likely to be a minimal compared to his market value.
