Redknapp: Shocked by decision
Harry Redknapp has given his support to Middlesbrough by claiming the Football Association's decision to increase Jeremie Aliadiere's ban to four games was 'scandalous'.
Aliadiere was sent off for slapping Javier Mascherano in Middlesbrough's 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.
Boro contested the decision but were left incensed as the FA opted to add an extra game to his suspension for a 'frivolous' appeal.
Redknapp felt Aliadiere was unlucky to be dismissed in the first place and has blasted the FA for punishing him further.
"I saw the first incident and it was two players putting their hands on each others face," the Portsmouth manager told Sky Sports News.
"One gets sent off, one doesn't, and then they appeal and he gets an extra game.
"I can't see why he has got an extra game. They didn't appeal because they thought it was frivolous, Middlesbrough appealed because they thought he shouldn't have got sent off.
"I looked at it and thought he was unlucky. He's reacted but he hasn't smashed him in the face or tried to break his leg.
"Middlesbrough felt they had the right to appeal and to give him another game I think it's scandalous."
