Middlesbrough midfielder Fabio Rochemback is set to meet with former club Sporting Lisbon.

The Brazilian international is free to talk with clubs after Boro opted against taking up the two-year option they had on him.

Now after three-years on Teesside, Rochemback is set to leave and Sporting - who he left to join Boro - are favourites to land his signature.

Rochemback actually arrived at Middlesbrough from Barcelona, although he had been on a two-year loan at Sporting.

"Rochemback will have a meeting with Sporting Lisbon to negotiate in the next week," said one of his representatives Vifran Pompeo.

"Fabio loved to play with Sporting, he respects them and has many friends there. But as of today nothing is official yet."

A move back to Brazil has also been suggested but again Pompeo said there is nothing concrete.

"There have been a few contacts for Fabio in recent months, Gremio tried to buy him in January but nothing was done," he said.
