Gareth Southgate is regretting the implementation of an open door policy at Middlesbrough.

The Boro boss is prepared to face a grilling from his playing staff if they disagree with his decisions, but is having to fend off mounting complaints from unhappy stars.

Those who fail to make Southgate's starting line-up are understandably keen to find out the thinking process behind their omission.

Egyptian striker Mido is an ideal example of a player who continues to be a frustrated figure on the sidelines.

The powerful front man has grabbed three goals in as many games this season, but is still not guaranteed a spot in the manager's first-team.

"A few of them have been knocking on my door," said Southgate.

"I've created an issue for myself because I always like to explain why they're not included."
