Johnson: Staying put
Middlesbrough assistant manager Malcolm Crosby has quashed rumours linking Adam Johnson with a loan move to Championship side Sheffield United.
England Under 21 international Johnson has previously spent loan spells at Watford and Leeds United in order to gain first-team experience.
Rumours have linked Johnson with another move away from the Riverside Stadium, with Stewart Downing currently in front of him in the pecking order on Teesside.
But Crosby insists Johnson will be staying with the club as he remains part of manager Gareth Southgate's plans.
He said in the Yorkshire Post: "We want to do well in this league so I think it is important that we have him with us.
"I understand his frustration, he's a great lad, he's a good trainer and loves his football, but I think my reasons are the most important at the moment. It's difficult for him, but we need a healthy squad."
