Middlesbrough striker Jeremie Aliadiere admits he faces an uncertain future at the club, despite marking his return to first-team football with a goal.

Aliadiere rounded off a 3-0 win over Scunthorpe at the Riverside on Boxing Day after Adam Johnson and Rhys Williams had put Boro in control.

The 26-year-old was making his first start under Gordon Strachan following a two-month lay-off with an ankle injury and the Frenchman admits he faces an uncertain future on Teesside.

The former Arsenal man joined Strachan at Celtic in 2005 for a season-long loan, although the deal was cut short after just one month by the Scot and the striker was sent back to the Gunners.

And Aliadiere said he must continue to perform well if he is to have a future at the club.

He said: "It's frustrating when a new manager comes in as you want to prove you should play.

"He must have been impressed in training because he started me.

"It's a very important time, I need to play well and get myself a new contract, which runs out at the end of the season."
