Middlesbrough are edging closer to finalising deals for Celtic quartet Gary Caldwell, Barry Robson, Willo Flood and Chris Killen.

Boro boss Gordon Strachan is anxious to bolster his squad and has made a big move on his former club.

Central defender Caldwell and midfielder Robson are both out of contract in the summer and Boro have agreed fees for both players.

Flood and Killen are both set to arrive on initial loan deals with a view to making their switches to Teesside permanent.

There is continued speculation that Caldwell could yet opt for Premier League side Wigan, but all four players are having medicals at Boro's Rockcliffe training HQ and Strachan is hopeful they will be signed in time to make their debuts at Sheffield United this weekend.

Boro's offer for Kris Boyd is still firmly on the table and Strachan is hopeful he can persuade the Rangers star to switch to The Riverside.
