Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has revealed his interest in Middlesbrough's Gary O'Neil.

The midfielder has recently seen his contract on Teesside extended by two years and he has proved a firm favourite of new boss Gordon Strachan, who handed him the captain's armband.

But reports now suggest that a number of clubs could be ready to try and tempt Boro into selling.

"We're aware of the availability of Gary O'Neil from Middlesbrough,"

Allardyce said.

"But at the moment we don't have any finances in place to move for any

players.

"If that changes and the board tells me there is, then we'll have a look in

the market.

"If it doesn't, then we stay with what we've got."

Bolton and O'Neil's former club Portsmouth are also said to be keen on luring him away from the Riverside before the end of the month.
