Ray Lewington felt Fulham's 1-1 draw at Birmingham City was a microcosm of the club's season.

Carlos Bocanegra headed Fulham into an early lead at St Andrews, with the visitors having chances to extend the advantage before Sebastian Larsson's second-half equaliser.

Caretaker boss Lewington, who will be replaced by the watching Roy Hodgson on Sunday, admits the match was similar to many which have gone before this season.

"I thought we created some nice chances, but we just couldn't get that second goal," Lewington told Sky Sports.

Problem

"That's been our problem this year. We've played quite well in a few games in the first half, but have gone in just one ahead and been pegged back.

"But I can't complain at our effort today."

Lewington is also confident that he will form part of Hodgson's backroom staff when the former Blackburn boss assumes control at Craven Cottage.

He added: "I think I'm staying. We met briefly just before we got on the bus and he said that he had no thoughts about bringing anyone else in, so we'll see how it goes."

Fulham's goalscorer Bocanegra is also looking forward to the opportunity to work with Hodgson in the coming weeks.

The American defender said: "We briefly met him before we came up here.

"He spoke to the team and the guys know he is coming this week, so we will get to spend more time with him and have a face-to-face with him."
