Johnson: Seeking return to London
Everton have refuted claims that Premier League rivals Fulham have tabled a bid for Andrew Johnson.
Reports had suggested that the Cottagers had made a £10.5million approach for the striker, but that would not appear to be the case.
Speculation had mounted on Tuesday night that the England international was set for an imminent departure from Goodison Park after he left Preston's Deepdale Stadium before the Toffees' pre-season fixture.
Johnson had been pencilled in to feature at some stage during the contest, but after discussions with club officials was omitted from the squad and left the ground.
This led to speculation that the 27-year-old was heading for talks at Craven Cottage, only for Everton chief executive Keith Wyness to deny that an agreement had been reached with the West London club.
"Contrary to some reports that have surfaced throughout the course of today, the club can confirm that no offer has been received nor has any deal been agreed for Andrew Johnson with Fulham Football Club," Wyness told the club's official website.
It is believed that former Crystal Palace striker Johnson is seeking a return to the capital for personal reasons.
An impending exit from Everton has been touted for some weeks, although interested parties have been reluctant to match the player's valuation.
However, it would appear that the Merseyside club still expect the forward to leave this summer, with David Moyes ready set to step up his search for a possible replacement.
Real Zaragoza's Diego Milito and Tottenham's Darren Bent are rumoured to be high on the manager's wish list, although no decision has been taken as to which target to pursue.
