Millers beaten by Wigan

Wigan picked up a key win on their trip to Rotherham, but the game was much tighter than the 2-0 scoreline suggests.

The race for automatic promotion has started in earnest, and Wigan kept their challenge on track with goals from Gary Teale and Jason Roberts.

Rotherham had battled well throughout, but did not take their chances and were made to pay by their visitors.

Chris Swailes had gone close early on with a header, and Robbie Stockdale had brought a save from John Filan.

Wigan then hit the crossbar with virtually their only chance of the opening half, when Lee McCulloch rattled the crossbar from Jimmy Bullard's corner.

Substitute Teale's arrival proved key - with the midfielder picked out by Roberts and making no mistake from 10-yards.

Rotherham were rocked by the goal but their afternoon got worse late on when Wigan grabbed an ill-deserved second.

Filan's clearance evaded everyone except Roberts, and he rifled home past Mike Pollitt to put a gloss on the scoreline.
