Heskey: Fitness test
Emile Heskey admits he was disappointed to be overlooked by Fabio Capello for Wednesday's friendly with France.
The Wigan hit-man made the new England manager's first squad for the clash with Switzerland in February but was forced to pull out through injury.
But Heskey believes his omission for the clash in Paris will give him chance to regain full fitness for Wigan's battle against relegation.
The 30-year-old striker, who is currently playing with pain-killing injections in his foot, told the Wigan Observer: "Fitness-wise it's probably better that I stay here at the club and prepare for our game at Portsmouth.
"I need some more training and to get some fitness work done. It's a massive period for us.
"I was disappointed not to get the call, but I think the manager is looking at a lot of different options. As long as I'm still in his thoughts, that's the main thing."
