Johnson: Wigan target

Sky Sports News sources have revealed Wigan have had a £9million bid for Andy Johnson rejected by Everton.

David Moyes has reiterated over the summer that he has no desire to lose the England squad member, but it has also been intimated a sizeable offer could tempt him into a sale.

Wigan are ready to smash their transfer record to land the former Crystal Palace favourite, but their opening bid has reportedly been turned down.

Johnson has made 53 starts and scored 17 goals since moving to Everton from Crystal Palace in 2006.

Last season was, at times, one of frustration for the player, with Yakubu Aiyegbeni often being preferred in a lone front role.

Egypt international Amr Zaki has arrived in Wigan to undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move to the JJB Stadium, but it would appear Latics chief Steve Bruce is eager to bolster his attacking options further.
