Kevin Kilbane insists his focus is on helping the Republic of Ireland reach the World Cup finals and not on an international career landmark.

The Republic are set to take on Cyprus at Croke Park on Wednesday, live on Sky Sports 2, in World Cup qualifying Group 8.

And, if selected, Kilbane will earn his 91st cap to equal Niall Quinn in second place in the Republic of Ireland's all-time appearance list.

But while Kilbane confesses he is proud to be closing in on Steve Staunton's record of 102 appearances, the Wigan player is adamant his priority is on helping the Republic reach South Africa in two years' time.

"No, honestly, I really haven't," said Kilbane when asked if he had set his sights on Staunton's haul of appearances.

Concentrate

"I will just see what happens now. I am just happy living for now.

"I will look forward to this game on Wednesday night, that's all I can concentrate on right now.

"I am very, very proud. I am very proud of the amount that I have played, of course.

"I am looking forward to the game like any other game, really. It's gone very, very quickly.

"You never, in your wildest dreams, think you would get that many.

"I am very, very proud and delighted. I just love playing the games."
