Wigan manager Steve Bruce has lauded Titus Bramble after a string of impressive displays by the much-maligned defender.

Wigan moved up to seventh in the league with Bramble marshalling the Lactics defence in Sunday's 1-0 away win against Bolton.

So impressive has the 27-year-old's displays been of late that Bruce has publicly praised the former Newcastle and Ipswich man.

"Many people have mocked him. He has become a laughing stock and been ridiculed," Bruce said

"But he is having a great season - he played well against Bolton - and has put in performance after performance lately. I hope that continues."

Suspension

The Wigan boss will have to make at least one change for the FA Cup tie against Tottenham on Friday as Lee Cattermole is suspended.

The former Middlesbrough midfielder has been a pivotal figure in the starting XI along with Bramble and the 20-year-old will be missed, according to Bruce.

"Lee has been a fantastic signing. He is playing out of his skin. He is only 20 but he is practically leading the team," he added.
