Wigan manager Roberto Martinez feels that, with the right amount of hard work, his side can exceed all expectations.

The former Swansea boss became Latics chairman Dave Whelan's first choice to replace Steve Bruce following a promising spell with the Championship side.

Already a favourite at the JJB Stadium, he has settled quickly into his new role.

Embracing the crowd's support, he admitted he is now looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

Hoping to make an immediate impact, the Spaniard believes the expectations from the fans ahead of his first season in charge could be of benefit to both him and the players.

Advantage

"I think that passion around the club will be a great advantage for us," he told the Wigan Evening Post.

"We all know how tough the job is going to be, especially over the next five or six months, as when a manager leaves a club there is always change and a good turnover in players.

"The next few months are going to be critical, but we need to rely on hard work and everyone pushing in the same direction, including the fans.

"If we can pull together as a club, we will all enjoy our football and move forward. That is what we have to do."
