Skysports.com understands Wigan have signed Manchester United youngster Tom Cleverley on loan.

Highly-rated midfielder Cleverley has agreed a season-long deal at the DW Stadium after United boss Sir Alex Ferguson sanctioned a loan move for the England Under 21 international.

The signing is a coup for Wigan manager Roberto Martinez as a number of clubs were chasing Cleverley, including the likes of Newcastle and Bolton.

However, Martinez has managed to persuade the 21-year-old to move to Wigan and he will now spend the season at the Latics.
