Williamson: Blades move
Midfielder Lee Williamson has joined Sheffield United from Championship rivals Watford for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Hornets from Rotherham in 2007, made 78 appearances during his Vicarage Road career, scoring five goals.
Bramall Lane boss Kevin Blackwell was happy to secure Williamson's services after holding off interest from a number of Championship rivals.
Blackwell told the Blades' official website: "He did very well at Preston and there were one or two other clubs desperate to take him. There was real competition but he chose Sheffield United - he really wanted to come here.
"He is a dynamic sort of midfielder who can play centrally or wide and he gets box to box. There is a goal in him and he will add competition in there."
Williamson spent the closing stages of last season on loan at Preston and has elected to move on despite the appointment of Malky Mackay as manager.
"Negotiations for Lee's transfer have been at an advanced stage for some time and he expressed his desire to leave Watford regardless of the future situation regarding the manager," chief executive officer Julian Winter told the Hornets' official website.
"With only one year left on his contract it is also a good deal for Watford, so the decision was taken to complete the transfer."
