Skysports.com understands Swansea are poised to sign Wales international David Cotterill from Championship rivals Sheffield United.

Swansea have been trailing Cotterill for some time and they are now close to finally thrashing out a deal.

Cotterill is expected to initially join on loan with a view to making the move permanent.

The 21-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Bramall Lane this season with most of his appearances coming off the bench.

Swans boss Paulo Sousa has been looking to add to his attacking options and Cotterill's versatility make an attractive proposition.

Swansea are hoping to tie up a deal in time for Cotterill to be involved in Friday's clash with Derby.
