Perry plumps for Baggies

West Bromwich Albion have pipped Birmingham City to the signing of veteran defender Chris Perry.

The 33-year-old has agreed a two-year contract at The Hawthorns after being released by new Charlton boss Iain Dowie.

Birmingham had also been keen on the centre half, but Perry has opted for a switch to another relegated Midlands side.

In joining up with Bryan Robson's team, Perry arrives alongside former Wimbledon team-mate John Hartson, who recently moved from Celtic.

Perry spent three years at The Valley, making over 80 appearances for Charlton after originally signing from Tottenham on loan.

He started his career at Wimbledon before Spurs stumped up £4 million for the stopper in 1999.

West Brom and Birmingham could now compete for another centre half, with the two Championship sides interested in Tottenham youngster Calum Davenport.
