West Brom boss Tony Mowbray was pleased after his side held Charlton 1-1 at The Valley on Good Friday.

Greg Halford gave the home side the lead, but Kevin Phillips equalised just before half-time to earn the Baggies a point from a lively encounter.

The result means the Baggies remain in fourth in the Championship, four points off an automatic promotion place.

Asked how he saw the result in terms of what he is trying to achieve this season, Mowbray told Sky Sports 1: "Well it's okay. We would have liked to have come and won of course.

"I didn't really feel as if we were in any danger of losing the football match. I thought we were threatening to score the winning goal the last half-hour or so, it didn't quite come; but no complaints with the desire, the commitment, the effort, the quality on show."

Asked if he saw the failure to put more pressure on the top two as a missed opportunity, he added: "No, not really, we've still got another game in hand. The FA Cup has thrown us two games behind everybody really and let's wait and see - there's a lot of twists and turns to go, teams will drop points.

"Yes we wanted to come here and win and felt we could but we will take the point and move onto the next one."

He added: "The bottom line is we have got to stick together. I think we showed people watching today, we showed our supporters who made the journey that we are a proper football team if you can say that - a team that tries to play and win football matches and a team that tries to be progressive and score goals as opposed to a team that is there to try and stop the opposition sometimes.

"Regardless of where our season goes, whether we get promoted or not, I am delighted at the progress the team is making and we have got to keep pushing on in that direction."

The point saw Charlton move up to eighth in the Championship, one point off Plymouth in sixth, but having played a game more.

Pardew pleased

And Addicks boss Alan Pardew believes his team played well against Mowbray's men.

He told Sky Sports News: "I thought it ebbed and flowed the game a little bit. We had some great periods - the start of the second-half, just before we scored - and they finished the game strong.

"So it did ebb and flow but we put in a good performance again and we are not far away.

"But coming off the back of three defeats it was a good performance from us against a good side but we would like to think we could have won it, but it didn't come our way."
