Alan Pardew was fuming at referee Karl Evans following Charlton's 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest.

The Addicks boss felt Forest defender Kelvin Wilson should have been dismissed for a reckless first-half challenge on Luke Varney as the striker looked to get in on goal.

He also felt his side should have been awarded a penalty after the break when Matt Thornhill appeared to handle Hameur Bouazza's goalbound header.

Consistency

Pardew said: "I don't want to see any player sent off but Wilson was last man. The other centre-half was never going to catch Varney and I can only assume that, because of the John Terry thing this week, he has made a call that, in my view, was wrong.

"We want consistency and if it had been the other way round, in my view, our centre-half would have gone.

"There was no reaction from the crowd. They all knew he was in trouble and he had to have conviction in his decision there.

"We should have had a penalty because the header was going in and it hit a hand, admittedly it was close.

"And then there was another decision where there was a clash of heads between two of their guys, which from where I was standing didn't look too bad but he stopped the game when we had an advantage.

"We had really tough decisions go against us."

Discipline

Forest were reduced to 10 men late on when Thornhill was given his marching orders for two bookable offences.

Reds boss Colin Calderwood was pleased to have taken a point from a tricky encounter, but felt his side should have taken advantage of their first-half dominance.

He said: "At half-time we felt we deserved to be in the lead but the second half was different - Charlton had a strong response to us.

"We showed admirable maturity in terms of not doing anything rash which would have left us exposed. The team gave a monumental physical effort, which was heightened in the closing stages by the sending-off.

"We showed good discipline through that period when Charlton were dominant and still conjured up a super opportunity.

"How it ended up 0-0 I don't know. Paul Smith made a marvellous save to stop us from going behind but everyone has contributed."

Aggressive

Calderwood also took a swipe at referee Evans over Thornhill's dismissal.

The youngster picked up cautions for two innocuous-looking challenges on Addicks ace Nick Bailey.

Calderwood declared: "The sending-off should be a learning curve but unfortunately, Matt Thornhill doesn't have to learn too much. Someone else does because Matt did nothing wrong - neither was a foul.

"I know Matt Thornhill and there's not a nasty bone in his body. It's hard to get him to say anything let alone be aggressive."
