Charlton boss Chris Powell says the emergency loan window gives him the chance to offload players rather than bring new faces in.

Powell has been one of the country's busiest bosses this summer, bringing 18 new signings into his squad.

But he has indicated that the Addicks will use the loan window to give the younger players a chance to ply their trades elsewhere.

"We will look at the situation over the course of the next few weeks to see if anyone needs to go out and get a month or two of football, especially the younger lads," Powell told the South London Press.

"We've got some good young players whose development will be enhanced by going out on loan. We've also got one or two older players we'd like to keep up to speed. Training ground games can never recreate what happens on a matchday.

"My squad is shaping up to be a strong one. You look at what could be available, and whether that would enhance us, but it's definitely governed by injuries, suspensions and fitness because we're not short of numbers, that's for sure."
