Danny Hollands' brace kept Charlton at the top of League One, although the Addicks ace aimed to bag a hat-trick as Rochdale lost 3-2.

Hollands, set to become a father of triplets in the near future, grabbed goals either side of a Rhoys Wiggins effort to sink Dale at Spotland.

With partner Natalie due to give birth soon, the midfielder will have to keep the champagne on ice.

"Danny is going to be a father of three and we really hope that goes well for him and Natalie," said Addicks boss Chris Powell. "He wanted the hat-trick as he's got three little ones on the way, but he'll take the two on this occasion and as long as everything goes well with the birth it will be great for him to celebrate this as well."

Powell added: "We are in a good position after eight games and it's good for everyone at the club that our confidence is high because we've been able to come back from situations where we've been trailing or teams have drawn level. Mentally the players know they can come back from mishaps.

"We've picked up 12 points on the road which is fantastic, and if we can match that form at home we'll be well on the way."
