Carlton Cole has vowed to fight 'tooth and nail' to help manager Gianfranco Zola turn West Ham United's season around.

Former Chelsea striker Cole has flourished since Zola took charge at Upton Park over a year ago and has established himself in the England squad.

However, the Hammers have endured a disappointing start to the season and sit in the Premier League's bottom three after failing to win since the opening day.

Cole is full of gratitude for Zola's role in reshaping his career and now wants to repay his manager, starting with Saturday's trip to Stoke City.

Positive guy

"I am going to try 100 per cent for Franco," stated Cole. "He has made a turnaround in my career, so I will try tooth and nail to get him out of the situation he is in.

"Now it is up to the players to try to help him out and do what is being asked of them.

"We did the double over Stoke last year and we are looking to emulate that.

"Franco is a really positive guy. He knows what he wants from his players and the standard he wants to play. All he can ask from the players is to give 100 per cent.

"We are all trying to gel because we are a fairly new team and a young team. But hopefully we can emulate what we did last season."
