Calum Davenport has joined non-league side Wootton Blue Cross in an attempt to resurrect his career, as Leeds continue to monitor his progress.

The former West Ham and Tottenham defender has not been involved in competitive action since being stabbed in both legs in an incident in his mother's home in August 2009.

The 27-year-old lost half the amount of blood in his body and spent several weeks in intensive care before returning to training with the Hammers.

However in light of an investigation following the incident he was released from the club and has been looking to regain his match fitness.

It is unlikely to be a long-term arrangement with the United Counties League side, with Leeds boss Simon Grayson keeping tabs on his progress after he trained with the Whites during recent weeks.

Beneficial

"Calum obviously feels it will be beneficial for him to play competitive football rather than reserve team football somewhere or training, and I hope this is the case for him and helps him," Grayson told Leeds' official website.

"I said initially it was all about looking at his fitness and that could take weeks or even months.

"There was no time-scale. We'll keep an eye on him and see where he is in terms of fitness and how he goes on."
