Watford defender Danny Shittu still hopes to be playing for SPL giants Rangers next season.

The Ibrox club agreed a deal with The Hornets for the burly defender's services only for the switch to fall down at the final hurdle.

Gers stated Shittu's wage demands scuppered the deal, although the Nigeria international says the collapse was not his fault.

Despite the apparent stalemate between the parties, the 27-year-old claims Rangers remain his 'first choice' destination this summer.

Move still on

"I was prepared to join Rangers," he told the Daily Record.

"They put a proposal on the table which was acceptable but when the contract was put in writing the deal had changed. That is where the breakdown in the talks came about.

"There is other interest out there but my first choice remains Rangers and I believe a deal can be done."
