Highly-rated youngster Sean Murray has signed scholarship and professional terms with Championship club Watford.

Murray, a 16-year-old attacking midfielder, has earned a three-year deal with the Hornets following a number of eye-catching performances for the Academy side.

The contract will become active when Murray, who also attracted interest from Manchester City, turns 17 in October.

He told the club's official website: "I was flattered to receive interest from Manchester City but I'm delighted to be signing at Watford as they have been a major part of my development.

"I just want to get on with playing football now and improving as much as I can here."

Watford boss Malky Mackay added: "Sean is someone who has attracted a lot of attention so we're delighted to have him sign for us at Watford.

"He's had a lot to deal with in the last six months or so and he's coped with it incredibly well."
