Lawrence: High hopes

Stoke City winger Liam Lawrence is hoping to hit top form this season after returning to the starting XI.

Lawrence missed the 1-1 draw at Hull City last weekend following the birth of his first child, but was back in the Potters' line-up as they contested a 0-0 stalemate with Barnsley at the Brittania Stadium on Tuesday night .

With that result against the Tykes, Stoke have now drawn their last three Championship matches after a promising start to the campaign.

However, with a home game against Plymouth Argyle coming up, and a full 90 minutes under his belt, the 25-year-old is hopeful he can find his form.

He told Sky Sports.com: "In the last few weeks I haven't been great, but I managed to get back on the ball more against Barnsley the other night.

"I felt I was more like my old self in the second half and that does wonders for your confidence. Hopefully I can now nick a goal as well."

Immediate

While the former Sunderland and Mansfield player admits he cannot wait for his son to start watching him play, he recognises the immediate need for Stoke to convert their draws into wins and gain ground on the division's early pace setters.

"We need to get a couple of players in to strengthen us so we can start turning all our draws into victories to get us up nearer the top of the table," he added.

"It won't be long before my young lad will be coming to the games regularly in a Stoke shirt with the number seven and 'daddy' on his back."
