Quotes of the week
Bryan Robson has expressed his disappointment at not having the funds he was expecting to help rebuild Sheffield United.
The former Middlesbrough and Bradford City boss has been under constant pressure to secure an immediate return to the Premier League after succeeding Neil Warnock last summer.
Robson has hit out at his lack of clout in the transfer market, stating he has not been able to splash as much cash as he would have liked following the sales of the likes of Phil Jagielka.
"The expectations are massive," he told The Guardian. "When the players got promoted the year before last it wasn't expected and there was no real pressure but the expectation now is that they can get straight back up.
"There's a lot of pressure and, if you don't get results you're going to get stick.
"I always thought I was going to be able to spend all the money I raise from player sales but that wasn't the case."
Robson has also hinted he needs more time at the club to instil his style of play on the players.
Whereas Warnock adopted a direct style of play at Bramall Lane, Robson is keen for his players to try different ways of breaking down the opposition in the final third.
"Neil played a very direct football whereas I want us to be able to pass the ball really well in the last third," he continued.
"But this squad is probably suited to a more direct style, so at the moment I'm trying to get the players to mix things up a bit, letting them be a bit direct at times but also encouraging some good passing."
