Huckerby: Canary no more
Darren Huckerby has been informed that he will not be offered fresh terms to stay at Norwich City.
After more than 200 games for the Championship club, the 32-year-old forward has been deemed surplus to requirements at Carrow Road.
Canaries boss Glenn Roeder has thanked the player for his efforts over the years but believes he needs to overhaul his squad in the summer.
Roeder said: "I have talked it over with Darren and told him we will not be offering him a contract for next season.
"I am looking to overhaul the squad for next season and beyond and a number of players, including Darren, are not part of those plans."
Chairman Roger Munby added: "When Nigel Worthington pulled off the coup of signing Darren, Peter Crouch and Kevin Harper on loan in the autumn of 2003 the football world sat up and took notice.
"They were right to do so. Daren had a galvanising effect on the club, on and off the pitch, and was an integral factor in our promotion to the Premier League the following May."
Roeder has shown he is willing to be ruthless in reshaping his playing staff having told eight other first team players that they will not be offered terms for next season.
Rossi Jarvis, Ryan Jarvis, Bally Smart, Patrick Bexfield, Andrew Cave-Brown, Steven Arnold, Matthew Halliday and Juan Velasco have also been released.
