Beenhakker: Outspoken
Poland boss Leo Beenhakker has urged Radoslaw Majewski to shun a summer move to West Brom.
The Baggies are looking to build a squad capable of cementing a place in the Premier League next season and had singled out Groclin Dyskobolia midfielder Majewski as a potential target.
The 21-year-old has been named his country's training squad ahead of Euro 2008 and will be looking to build on his three senior caps at the summer tournament.
However, outspoken Dutch coach Beenhakker insists that the talented youngster would "kill his career" if he completed a switch to the Hawthorns.
"They are not going to be needing creative midfielders but the kind of players they need to stay up," the former Ajax and Real Madrid coach said in the Birmingham Mail.
"If Majewski moved to West Bromwich Albion it would make no sense whatsoever.
"They are going to be battling against relegation and probably won't want players like this, so I'm surprised they are looking at him.
"If it was Tottenham or Manchester City wanting him then that's something different, but it could kill his career going there (to Albion).
"I'm not going to call Majewski, but if he wants my advice then he should think about football for the next nine years not about how much money he can earn. If he wants to move somewhere for the money then he should go to Qatar when he's 30."
Despite Beenhakker's outburst, The Baggies remain keen on the Pole and are believed to be seeking discussions with his club regarding his availability.
Groclin's sporting director Tadeusz Fajfer confirmed that Tony Mowbray's side had been in touch, but played down suggestions that a 3m euro (£2.3m) price tag had been placed on the player.
"There are no meetings planned, but questions have been asked by West Bromwich about this player because they are interested," Fajfer said.
"That's as far as it's got. But, contrary to reports, we have not met anyone from their club as yet. It may not happen at all. We don't know.
"As for the price of 3m euros, that has not been disclosed by us. It is speculation to suggest that we would want that much for the player, although any negotiations will remain private."
