Nyatanga: Future under the spotlight
Barnsley boss Simon Davey has admitted that Lewin Nyatanga could be staying at Derby despite a deal being in place for his return to Oakwell.
The Wales defender spent the majority of this season on loan at Oakwell but returned to Pride Park and started the relegated Rams' last Premier League game of the campaign.
Despite a deal being in place for Nyatanga to sign for the Reds at the end of the season, Davey admits the transfer could yet fall through.
"To be honest I am not too sure about Lewin at the moment. He has gone back to Derby and they have come down now so we might have to wait and see on that." he told the club's official website.
"The deal is still there with Derby but there are ways to get out of it from both sides and at the end of the day it will come down to what the player wants."
Davey also announced that he has transfer-listed midfield pair Andy Johnson and Sam Togwell with the view of bringing on youngster Jacob Butterfield.
"Sometimes you have to move players on if you are going to make sure your youngsters develop and come through," he said.
"Andy is 33 and Sam is 23 - sometimes you have to make sure you develop your own talent and give the younger boy his opportunity by removing some of the obstacles he faces.
"Andy and Sam are still under contract and could still be here, but if they could move on to another club it would pave the way for Jacob to have more of an opportunity to show his talents here."
Meanwhile, Davey confirmed goalkeeper Luke Steele will be joining the club permanently on June 21 after his impressive loan spell this season.
