Sturrock: Hopeful

Paul Sturrock has told Sky Sports News he is hoping to bring in four or five more new players before the start of the season.

Plymouth have already signed Karl Duguid from Colchester and Barnet's Jason Puncheon this summer.

But Sturrock believes his squad needs to be strengthened further if the Pilgrims are to improve on their tenth-placed finish of last season.

"We've still got a lot of irons in the fire," he told Sky Sports News. "We'd hope to have four or five more new players at the football club.

"We want to run with 22, two for each position. There's still a lot of work to be done but I'm very hopeful we'll get there as soon as possible."

Sturrock accepts there will be more expectation from the fans when the new Championship campaign gets underway.

He said: "We finished the highest we have finished in many years last season and we'd like to build on that."

Sturrock added that he was also concerned about the number of new investors in the Championship.

"There's money flying everywhere at this time which has surprised me," he explained.

"Any team will have an apprehension ahead of the new season because no one knows what is coming."
