Barnsley have confirmed that young midfielder Simon Heslop is training with League Two side Rochdale.

The 21-year-old has made just one first-team appearance for the Tykes and has spent regular spells away from Oakwell during his fledgling career.

He has made more than 100 appearances in the Blue Square Premier during loan stints at Kidderminster, Northwich, Tamworth and Halifax, and has left lasting impressions at each club.

However, with a step up into the first-team at Barnsley seemingly still some way off, Simon Davey is once again prepared to allow the youngster to go continue his learning curve elsewhere.

"Simon has been with Rochdale this week and is training with them with a view to a possible loan deal," the Tykes boss told the club's official website.
