Skysports.com understands that West Ham and Nottingham Forest have shown an interest in Bruno Berner.
The Switzerland international has recently held talks with League One outfit Leicester, but a deal is yet to be struck.
That has alerted the attentions of Forest and the Hammers to the 30-year-old's availability.
Colin Calderwood is piecing together a squad capable of mounting a play-off bid in the Championship, while Alan Curbishley is keen to find a back-up for first-choice left-back George McCartney.
Berner does have limited experience of life in English football, having joined Blackburn from Basel in January 2007.
However, he failed to make an impact at Ewood Park and was subsequently released at the end of last season.
He joined Norwich for pre-season training at the start of July, but failed to earn a permanent contract.
At present, the Foxes remain favourites to land his services, but he should have no shortage of takers should a move to the Walkers Stadium fail to materialise.
