Ledley: Bids rejected

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones almost fell out with Tony Pulis over Stoke City's deadline-day pursuit of Wales international Joe Ledley.

The Bluebirds had already rejected a £5million offer from Stoke for Ledley before The Potters came in with an improved £6million bid on Monday.

Although the move would have seen Ledley playing his football in the Premier League had Cardiff accepted, Jones does not think the switch would have benefited the 21-year-old.

"Tony Pulis is a close friend, but I could easily have fallen out with him that day," Jones told the South Wales Echo. "I had to ask him to back off.

Wrong move

"With all due respect to Stoke City it was not the right move for Joe. I believe time will show that.

"He can achieve better than that - and my hope is that he will step into the Premiership with Cardiff City.

"We are trying to build something at Cardiff City and Joe is a big part of that. Of course he wants to play in the Premiership.

"Every player wants to do that and Joe's chance will come. I would like to think the decision to stay is the best one for Joe Ledley."
