Plymouth Argyle defender Marcel Seip has signed a contract extension to stay at Home Park until 2011.

Seip was due to be out of contract at the end of the season, but the 2006 signing from Heerenveen has pledged his long-term future to the Championship club.

He had been placed on the transfer list in April, before being taken off in July, after refusing to be a substitute last season, but Pilgrims boss Paul Sturrock has praised Seip's performances this term.

"Marcel has signed a new contract with the club and everybody is very pleased," Sturrock told the club's official website.

"His standard of performance this season has been excellent and you don't want to lose that type of player.

"He wanted to stay here. There was the haggling with the agents, as there always is, but we have come to terms now and we are very pleased everything has worked out.

"Last year, the scenario at the end of the season didn't really help things, but he has come to the show."

Vitally important

With Seip's future now resolved, Sturrock will turn his attention to other members of his squad, starting with striker Rory Fallon.

He added: "This is a start and it is vitally important [to get contracts sorted out].

"I am now having a chat with Rory and we are in negotiations with him and his agent.

"Rory has been very important as well and we want to sort something out with him very quickly. We will then look down the list at the other players."
