Norwich City boss Glenn Roeder has played down a move for Newcastle United defender David Edgar.

The Canadian has been linked with a move to Carrow Road after failing to make a first-team appearance for the Magpies in almost two months.

Edgar was given his Newcastle debut during Roeder's time in charge at St James' Park, but the Canaries chief is not planning a reunion.

"Anyone who becomes available at Newcastle I'd probably be linked with - unless it's Michael Owen," said Roeder in the Eastern Daily Press.

"I don't think we'd be linked with him. But he's not in my mind at the moment."

Kienast blow

Meanwhile, Roeder has confirmed that he has had to cool his interest in Roman Kienast after the Austrian striker suffered a hamstring injury on trial with the Championship club.

"Unfortunately, he's picked up a hamstring injury that is an old injury he had only just recovered from," said Roeder.

"He came on a recommendation - I didn't know a lot about him - but having pulled his hamstring in the manner he did, he's not going to be fit for four to six weeks, so we have had to drop the reins on that one.

"He would have been here a few more days. It's so important when you have a trialist that you can play him in a match. Training tells you so much, but matches tell you a lot more."
