Graham Simpson has resigned as chairman of Championship strugglers Watford.

The annnouncement was made on Monday at the club's Emergency General Meeting at Vicarage Road.

A vote of no confidence in the board was expected to be made during the EGM, but that was withdrawn following the exit of Simpson.

The club's current financial position has been the subject of speculation for some time with the Hornets being forced to sell a number of their top stars in the summer.

Simpson's last act as Watford chairman was to install Brendan Rodgers as the club's new manager following the departure of Aidy Boothroyd.

Andew Wilson, who is currently a non-executive director of Watford Lesiure, has been named as the club's new interim chairman.
