Watford's new manager Brendan Rodgers says it is business as usual at the club, despite Graham Simpson's surprise resignation.

The announcement of Simpson stepping down was made on Monday at the club's Emergency General Meeting at Vicarage Road.

Some had been left wondering whether Rodgers' position could be compromised as Simpson's last act as chairman was to name the former Chelsea reserve-team coach as Adrian Boothroyd's long-term successor.

However, Rodgers has confirmed he was kept in the loop regarding what developments there might be at the club and that Simpson's possible departure had been on the cards.

Aware of the situation

"I was obviously aware of the situation before coming in," he told Sky Sports News. "I had a very open and honest conversation with the club from the beginning.

"(Simpson's possible exit) was something that had come up. I was surprised at how quickly it's happened, but I've always been aware of it.

"Graham was key in bringing me in, so I'm sad to see him go for that reason, but for me it was on the understanding that whether he left or not would not make an impact on my role.

"It's a situation I don't know too much about having just come in through the door. I'll get on with my work irrespectively."
