Charlton Athletic are hoping Therry Racon will not require an operation after suffering a knee injury.

Racon marked his return to action after three months on the sidelines with a broken metatarsal by scoring his first goal for Charlton in last week's 2-1 defeat at Queens Park Rangers.

However, the French midfielder complained of a swollen knee after the game and sat out Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Southampton.

His injury is now being monitored by the Addicks, who are waiting to see if surgery is needed, which would force Racon on to the sidelines again.

"Therry has a chondral defect of the patella and we are going to drain the knee of the fluid and give him an injection," Addicks physio Steve Allen told the South London Press.

"After that, we will monitor the injury and decide whether Therry needs an operation or not.

"If he doesn't require an op then hopefully he will only be out for the short term. But it is a rare type of injury and we do not know for sure how it will react to the treatment so we have to keep an eye on it."
