Plymouth Argyle are hoping to extend the loan of Manchester United defender Craig Cathcart.

The teenager has impressed at Home Park since arriving in August and has made 15 appearances in all competitions.

His current deal is due to expire after Plymouth travel to Cardiff City in the Championship on 28th December.

But Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock will be asking his United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson to extend the arrangement further.

"We have started to have talks with Manchester United about extending his loan and we hope to know more by Thursday," Sturrock told the Herald.

Cathcart has yet to make a senior appearance for United and is scheduled to return to Old Trafford before Plymouth face Arsenal in the FA Cup at the start of January.
