Banfield accept Town's bid for 50 per cent of midfield

Luciano Civelli is on the verge of joining Championship outfit Ipswich Town after an offer was accepted for the midfielder, according to reports in South America. It had been thought the 22-year-old Argentine would join AEK Athens after the Greeks travelled to Buenos Aires to see him in action. However, Ipswich have now come in with an improved bid of $1.5million (£1million) for 50 per cent of the player's rights which Banfield have accepted. "The offer from the English team is very interesting," stated Benfield's vice-president Carlos Portel.

Deal imminent?

"We've already analysed it at a board meeting, so the player could maybe be transferred in the next few days." Civelli had been in the dark over Ipswich's interest prior to linking up with his team-mates for pre-season, but says he is prepared to move to England in order to further his career. "If everything is so advanced as the press says, well, I will have to start to learn to speak in English," he admitted.
